Spent the last two days down in Surrey to work with the good folks at Discover the World.
Discover the World offer trips to a number of destinations for students, along with a growing range of support materials. We are currently discussing some ways of working with each other, which has some exciting potential.
The event was a free CPD course for teachers and educators to explore some ways of teaching about place and places... My co-presenter was teacher and well-known author Simon Ross.
He wrote this mapskills book, amongst many others, which I made heavy use of when teaching.
We showed the delegates the most recent support that Discover the World offer, in the form of a series of
Study Guides. These include the GA Silver Award winning pack on the Eyjafjallajokull eruption, which was co-written with David Rogers.
They have also added a new pack to their website looking at the Solheimajokull Glacier, which was co-written by Stephen Schwab, colleague on the GA Secondary Committee. It is designed to develop literacy as well as knowledge about the glacier.
Here's the presentation that I used for my sessions. Apologies for over-running slightly... :)
Thankfully the feedback seems to have been uniformly excellent.
