McFarms and South African food woes

McFarms

Thanks to Twitter and @tracingpaper for the tip off to a chance for an interesting new scheme that McDonalds are involved in. As one of the sponsors of the London 2012 Olympics, they will be feeding some of the millions of visitors to London for the duration of the games.
They are opening the gates to some of the farms that supply them, and visitors to the website above can apply for the chance to go round one of them.

There has been quite a lot in the press about the possible impact of FIFA's deals with corporate sponsors on some local businesses in South Africa during the World Cup. Although in some cases the businesses are a few hundred yards from the stadium, they are apparently going to be forced to close during the most lucrative opportunity they will ever have, as they are not "official" food outlets and might 'compete' with the food outlets that sponsors have paid large sums of money to secure.
Plenty of articles online for those who might want to investigate this story further, around the general theme of the impact and legacy of the championships...
