From Gill Davidson on her experiences observing lessons:

"Lessons which are unsatisfactory often follow a predictable pattern of teacher talk, some limited question and answer, followed by a fairly undemanding individual written task involving transferring or recording information. In such lessons, pupils are passive; they are not actively engaged in activities which facilitate learning and the development of learning skills..."
